Dried Black Soldier Fly Larvae, the new dried insect gaining much popularity in the bird feeding world!
These insects look very much like obese Mealworms but really they are quite different. Black Soldier Fly Larvae are extremely high in calcium rather than protein, hence the name 'Calci'worms. This is a very important mineral for birds, in particularly in the run up to the breeding season where a high calcium consumption helps with strong egg development. Given that, Black Soldier Fly Larvae are great feed during the early spring months although you will find these dried insects are a favourite for many garden birds all year around.
Black Soldier Fly Larvae are best fed scattered on the ground or from a bird table. This way songbirds such as Robins and Blackbirds (who adore Black Soldier Fly Larvae) can feed. If you want to feed these worms from a feeder, we suggest mixing them in a seed mix. The reason for this is Caciworms, given their size and shape, can easily get lodged in a tubular feeder, preventing them from flowing it a feeder port.
Suitable For Feeding: Tits, Sparrows, Dunnocks, Nuthatches, Woodpeckers, Starlings, Robins, Wrens, Blackbirds, Song Thrushes.
